Discussion Forum (Week 6)

1. What is the Kariton Klasrum? Why was it built?

        - Kariton Klasrum is a small moving classroom brought to poor communities by volunteers led by Mr. Efren Penaflorida. It was built because of Mr. Penaflorida's motivation which is to bring hope to poor children by giving them proper education. Mr. Penaflorida, himself, was also a poor boy living in the slums. Back then, he was hopeless thinking he couldn't do anything besides doing wrong actions like getting into a gang and using violence against others. He thought of educating poor children and give them hope wishing that what happened to him will also happen to them. Thankfully, Mr. Kb Manalaysay helped him and the rest is history.

2. Efren came from a poor family, but it did not hinder him to help others. Were you inspired after watching the video? Did it give you a desire to help others as well in your own ways (big or small)? Why or why not?

        - Yes it inspires me to help others as well. Since I was little, I always want to help others especially those homeless people but I don't know how as before, I think that small ways of helping cannot actually help them. As I grow older, I realized that there are many people who want to help them as well but couldn't do so as they have the same thinking. I realized that it will still be a help, small help or big help, it will surely help the person/people. Helping them will surely have a big difference not just in their lives but also in our lives. It gives us that warm feeling in our hearts when we are able to help someone in need.

3. In the context of the video, what is "SALBABIDA"? What lessons/learnings did you realize?

        - Literally, a "Salbabida" is an object used by people who can't swim or just to save them from drowning. In the video, it refers to the person/people who help others, big help or small help. As I watch the video, I realized that helping others is really priceless. Being able to give them hope or anything they need is such a relief that you saved a person suffering from such misfortunes. Also, I thanked God for what I have right now, even if we are not rich like others, my family can still eat 3-5 times a day and can somehow have some things that we want.
